Information System

Information systems (IS) or management information systems, is an academic subject that was first established in 1960s. It originaly obtained in computer science, managemene, organization theory, operation research and accounting that is focus on the use of computers in society and organizations. Information system is defined as a bridge attached between the business world and computer science that is established to identify, assemble, analyse, calculate, classify, record and report the transactions and other events that affect an entity, and to maintain accountability for assets, liabilities, revenues and expenditures.

For most businesses, there are a variety of requirements for information. Senior managers need information to help with their business planning. Middle management need more detailed information to help them monitor and control business activities. Employees with operational roles need information to help them carry out their duties.As a result, businesses tend to have several "information systems" operating at the same time.

Information systems generally are classified into five categories:  office information systems (OIS), transaction processing systems (TPS), management information systems (MIS), decision support systems (DSS), and expert information systems (EIS).
